A time of your life

He opens his eyes and his vision is completely blurred. He immediately feels an incredible surge reverberating through his body. He knows that he’s falling. What he doesn’t know is why its taking so long to strike ground and whether he jumped or was pushed. His hands and legs feel uncomfortable as he can’t feel anything as he sways them around.

He decides on keeping his eyes shut and actually begins enjoying the sensation. The feeling is like none other. On one hand, it felt like a million slaps of wind all over his body and on another, it is just the most thrilling thing he had ever felt. Just when he wanted to spend the rest of his life falling, it all stopped in a flash. No crash, no sound, no feeling. He just stopped falling and could feel ground under his feet.

He opened his eyes but couldn’t see a thing. He couldn’t figure out if he was blinded or it was too dark. He quickly felt himself to check if he was alright and was shocked out of his mind to learn that he had grown a tail. He screamed out for help but instantly held his voice back as he realised it wasn’t his own coming out of his throat. Trying to accept these dramatic changes, he tried to sit down, tucking his tail between his legs. He realised he can’t. The tail refused to be tucked in for more than a few seconds. So, just as he tried to sit, the tail would spring out with a start, throwing his body ahead.

By now his frustration had reached a stage that it stopped bothering him as much. He decided that he wouldn’t lose his mind and tried to rationalise the chain of events that led to his present condition. His last memory was waking up to realise that he was falling. Obviously, his logical bent of mind couldn’t explain anything.

Attempting to be optimistic, he thought to himself that it can’t get any worse. That is when he felt a pair of hands squeezing his face to mould expressions into them. He initially tried to resist. Then, he swung his arms around but he couldn’t reach the body of the person whose hands he could feel. He yelled out in the alien voice that he had recently acquired. He couldn’t understand the words that came out of his own mouth, besides there was no response. The hands stopped screwing his face and moved away. He tried to find them but couldn’t. They were gone.

He silently prayed that this had to be a dream. It wasn’t. SHATTAKK! An unannounced slap graced his cheeks. He grunted in rage, throwing fists in the air. Then feeling completely helpless, he sunk into himself. He realised that the hand was teasing him. He wanted to severe the hand but he couldn’t reach it. Not that he had a weapon for the task. Suddenly, the hand touched his face gently, slowly massaging the same spot it had attacked a moment ago. Then it brushed down his arms, to reach his hands that it held firmly, stroking his palm with its thumb passionately. He couldn’t interpret what was happening. But at that very moment, it didn’t matter. In fact, nothing mattered to him anymore.
